[Touhou] Bad Apple!! Remake with Live Playing [HD]

Friday, January 15th, 2010

An attempt at remaking the Alstroemeria Records remix of “Bad Apple!!”, the stage 3 theme from Touhou 04: Lotus Land Story. It took about 8 days in total. I added a lot of improvisation during the main “chorus” part. Major thanks to my brother (Steeeven1 on YouTube) for playing the guitar part, and going from never having heard it before, learning it, and having it recorded in less than 2 hours.

[Watch in HD]

The looping backing part which I played on the keyboard is seriously annoying to play, so I put some lights on to annoy everyone else. …No, not really. I just thought they livened things up a bit. xD

This is a birthday present to someone who finds the original version of “Bad Apple!!” awesome. I hope this can live up to that…

High-quality MP3 is here, and link to the video on Niconico Douga for those who want to leave scrolling comments is here.

[HD] Flandre’s Christmas Light Show [Flan-Wing Lights]

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Here are my custom StepMania lights taped to my wall, to resemble the crystals on one of Flandre‘s wings, and I added a horizontal mirror to make the second wing. I made a simfile specifically for the 8 lights, just like I did back on Cirno Day.

[Watch with video/audio in sync]

I know that the lights don’t perfectly match up with the crystals on the drawing (by Kiyomin), but I thought of overlaying a drawing AFTER I’d set up the lights, and I couldn’t really move them because I’d measured the wires to be only as long as needed. I never thought I’d stumble upon even this good a picture of her (position-of-the-crystals-wise) – and she’s even wearing Christmassy clothes! So although they don’t line up perfectly, I thought it would be a wasted opportunity to leave out the drawing.

The tune is to the theme of Flandre Scarlet (extra-stage boss in Touhou 6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil), called “U.N. Owen Was Her?”. Unfortunately, I don’t know the name (or even artist) of this Christmas-style arrangement of it.

The lights are being controlled by my own freeware program “StepMania Player”, which you can get from here. Lower-quality version on NicoNico Douga for those of you who want to leave scrolling comments is here. =P

This light show is for a special someone… nyan. x3

Window Light Show – In Memory Of Cirn⑨ Day

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Well, I was a ⑨ and only started making this on the 8th, so it was a big effort for me to get it done and recorded before the 9th ended.

[Watch at YouTube]

This is an insanely rushed video of the view from outside my bedroom window. Later I intend to upload a video showing the simfile I made (and which these lights are playing) playing on StepMania, because it looks kind of insane, perhaps along with another few views of the lights from other locations.

This video is not uploaded in HD, because too many computers struggle to play HD YouTube videos (they update the picture slowly), and that’s a very bad thing for this video. Smoothness is essential here, and the picture resolution is not. ^^

Sadly, I couldn’t get it compressed and uploaded before midnight GMT (and certainly not a proper in sync version, *cough* YouTube), but we will NEVAR FORGET our little blue idiot, so I guess it’s okay. ^^ Yep, that makes no sense whatsoever. But who cares? It’s Cirno d–! Oh wait, it’s not any more.

[Touhou] Native Faith – Custom StepMania Lights At Night!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Someone wanted to see them playing a  song with a difficulty 15 step chart, so here they are blasting out “Native Faith” (Suwako Moriya’s theme) to the rest of the street. =P

I’ve tried to compensate for YouTube’s tendancy to make the video become ahead of the audio, so hopefully the audio/video should be in sync this time.

The reason why the view from outside missed out on the first flash is because I made a program to start the lights on a timer (since I was with the cam), but it didn’t work perfectly. xD

I apologise for the strange “blockiness” which appears momentarily throughout the video it’s because my camcorder needs its head cleaning. It’s not visible on most of my videos, but since the picture changes from bright to dark so quickly here, it’s much more obvious.

This simfile can be found in the 4th Touhou StepMania pack, and the 3rd and 4th packs can be downloaded from here (371.8 MB!).

Remix: “Critical Judgement” – StepMania

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

My friend, Sota Systems (Sota250993), and I, made this techno remix of Shikieiki’s theme, “Critical Judgement”, after hearing IOSYS’s remix of the same theme, “Koko de atta ga 60 nenme”. Then I made a StepMania simfile for it.

We play it on StepMania at the same time, but in our own separate countries, recording our gameplay with several cameras, and here you see it all mixed into one video – our combined gameplay views. I have a few custom things connected to my comp being controlled by StepMania. ;D

You can download the simfile (even if you don’t play StepMania, it’s just a ZIP and it includes the MP3) from a new “StepMania Simfiles” section of my site, here.

Also in the video is a crazy announcer which my bro (“Steeeven1″) and I made, after being told that a previous attempt wasn’t crazy enough. I won’t provide a download link for it unless anyone seriously wants one. ;P

The StepMania theme is called Pop☆Candy 2, and you can get it from the author’s site, here.

Subwoofer Mod

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

My friend Sota-sama did a neat little mod to his subwoofer the other day, making blue LEDs flash in the pressure hole. Looks really neat in my opinion. It makes me wonder… why don’t companies make subs like this?

If you’d like to comment, it’s probably best to comment on the YouTube page, since this is his, and not mine, after all. ;)

Custom StepMania Lights

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Lights flashing to the notes in StepMania files. They’re controlled by a program which I made which reads SM files and plays through the notes (it’s the same program which controlled the servos in my previous video where the servos pressed the arrow keys for StepMania).

Some people who saw my previous video may know that I (accidentally) killed the microcontroller on the same day that I made the video. My brother’s kindly letting me use his in the meantime. I ordered a new one two weeks ago today, and it still hasn’t arrived. Aaaah, SSC-taaan! >_<

Technical rubbish:
The main microcontroller is an SSC-32.
The bulbs are each 2-Watt 21-LED 12-Volt bulbs, producing the same amount of light as a 25-Watt halogen bulb.

I intend to make a guide on how to make this, some time.

EDIT: Oh, YouTube’s messed up the sync again.
