[Touhou] Bad Apple!! Remake with Live Playing [HD]

Friday, January 15th, 2010

An attempt at remaking the Alstroemeria Records remix of “Bad Apple!!”, the stage 3 theme from Touhou 04: Lotus Land Story. It took about 8 days in total. I added a lot of improvisation during the main “chorus” part. Major thanks to my brother (Steeeven1 on YouTube) for playing the guitar part, and going from never having heard it before, learning it, and having it recorded in less than 2 hours.

The looping backing part which I played on the keyboard is seriously annoying to play, so I put some lights on to annoy everyone else. …No, not really. I just thought they livened things up a bit. xD

This is a birthday present to someone who finds the original version of “Bad Apple!!” awesome. I hope this can live up to that…

High-quality MP3 is here, and link to the video on Niconico Douga for those who want to leave scrolling comments is here.

Chen Nyan Poi~! Chen Nyan Fail! Fail!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Yeah… A rushed attempt by me of Chen Nyan Poi on the piano (well, keyboard). I had to have it done by a certain day for somone, and I guess I had been too lazy with practising, but being fail has never stopped other things of mine from being uploaded.

[Watch in HD]

“Chen Nyan Poi” is a remix by IOSYS of the theme of Chen (stage 2 boss in Touhou 07: Perfect Cherry Blossom). Anyway, not much more to say here, except that I actually recorded this over 3 weeks ago and had forgotten to upload it until now. orz

Caramelldansen Piano Attempt [HD]

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

This is me trying to play Caramelldansen as I’ve learnt it from memory, to a metronome at 165 BPM.

There are at least 4 very obvious and cringe-worthy mistakes which make me think I shouldn’t be uploading this, but after trying for quite a few hours over 2 days, this was the best I could do. Maybe someday after more practise I’ll try it on a real piano.

[Watch in HD]

Also, my Remi plush fell onto the keys many times during failed attempts but didn’t during this “most successful” one, so I had to force her to. =P

Technical stuff: The keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-E313. Played music can be recorded onto internal memory. While playing this, it was recording, and later I played it back while its headphone output was connected to my soundcard, to have a nice clean recording of just the piano sound without the metronome, key presses, and my sniffing due to hayfever. xD

Miku No Hana (Higurashi No Naku Goro Ni Kai) 【初音ミク】

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Here’s Miku singing along with my attempt at playing “Naraku No Hana” (opening of “Higurashi No Naku Goro Ni Kai”) on my keyboard. I tried my hand at a little video-editing too. This was my first time using MikuMikuDance, so I decided to keep it simple. I still think I made it look weird. This is also my first widescreen video, and it was actually necessary.

A high-quality MP3 can be downloaded from here.

I played the music on my keyboard and had my computer recording both the audio (line out) and notes (MIDI out). Then I imported the recorded MIDI into Vocaloid2, removing the chords (keeping only the melody), changed a few things, and made Miku sing the lyrics. This way, I can play anything at all and Miku will always stay in sync without me having to tediously sync her notes.

Bleeper Music Maker (revision 131) + Remi Piano Solo

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

MIDI OUT!! … … is the main new feature added in this version. Instead of (or as well as) using the PC speaker, it can send all notes and beeps to a MIDI device which you choose (it doesn’t have to be external, it can even be that nasty-sounding synth Windows XP and Vista use by default). More info in Info.txt under “MIDI OUTPUT MOD”

To show off the new Midi Output mod, here’s a short video of a little BMM file I made, playing through my Yamaha keyboard via MIDI Out, complete with accidental footage of a bug with the Synchronized Play mod, which makes it randomly decide start playing 2 minutes after you last started it playing. By the way, that bug is now fixed.

Usual program download link. The download now includes the BMM file you see playing in the video, too (“Remi Solo.BMM”).

Hmm, previously Sakuya, then Remilia… Flandre is next. =D

Touhou Piano Medley (Touhou 08: Imperishable Night)

Friday, March 28th, 2008

I felt I was playing too much NON-Touhou music lately, so I hope this little Touhou medley of mine makes up for it (it had better do, the hours I spent practising >_<).
Inspired by the great music from Touhou 08: Imperishable Night.

The keyboard is plugged into my soundcard INPUT, and my headphones are plugged into my soundcard OUTPUT. That way, you get as close to perfect audio as possible (no hiss from a microphone), and I can hear what I’m playing as I play it, without disturbing other people in the house.

I know Mystia’s part was short, but I was having so much trouble with it that I decided to just stick to what I was happy with playing.

Keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-E313.

I’m also providing an MP3 of this – should anyone want it – at 320 kbps.

[Gaxtile] ‘GAK Style’?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Just a litle explanation of how we came up with the name ‘Gaxtile’ for our 2-person ‘band’ (if you can really call it that).

Yes, we are slightly insane.

[Gaxtile] Now I Lay Thee Down (Calm Style)

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

An accidentally-made calm, almost ambient version of the song which was originally by Machine Head.
We’re just amateurs, and we already know we’re not that good.

We do this for fun, that’s why we often laugh a little when we mess up. We just want to share with people our little attempts of recreating music.

Much more info is in the video!

Please attempt to enjoy! ^^

Recorded only with my camcorder, so there was a lot of noise in the audio originally. It was particularly tricky to remove the noise from this music, but I’ve removed as much noise as I can.

Here’s a higher-quality MP3:

The MP3 is stereo, at 256kbps. It’s the audio stream of the video which you see here, so it has silence at the beginning.

[Gaxtile] Now I Lay Thee Down (Original Style)

We’re just amateurs, and WE KNOW WE’RE NOT THAT GOOD, so a hundred comments saying that we suck is something we can do without. This is my brother and I attempting to play the song which was originally by ‘Machine Head’.

Recorded only with my camcorder, so there was a lot of noise in the audio originally. I’ve removed as much noise as I can. Any more and the music would get messed up too much.

I’ll put a higher-quality MP3 available for download even though I don’t think there’ll be much demand:

Here’s the link.

Imperishable Night via MIDI Out

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I was playing around with my keyboard (Yamaha PSR-E313) which has MIDI in and out capability, and I was thinking “I wonder how the music from Imperishable Night would sound through this thing…” (since Imperishable Night has an option of MIDI music in its Options screen). I made this little YouTube video out of the result.

The actual YouTube page is here. The idea was that the keyboard’s display would let you see the notes as they’re played (the notes on Channel 1 of the MIDI, so sometimes nothing shows up). But YouTube did as good a job as ever at making the audio and video get out of sync, so it’s hard to follow. <_<

I’m having trouble getting it to set up the channels properly, i.e. what should be PERCUSSION comes out as PIANO. That is, until I start playing a MIDI file on the keyboard itself – at that point, it sets up its channels properly. That means it’s restricted to playing the Touhou music using instrument sets from the MIDIs I have stored on the keyboard at the moment.
So what I’m doing is getting the Imperishable Night music playing on my computer as MIDI, it goes to my keyboard, then I start and immediately pause another unrelated MIDI on the keyboard itself, to force it to set its channels up properly. This means you’re hearing the Touhou music using different sets of instruments than intended to (the instruments of the unrelated MIDIs). I use a few random unrelated MIDIs, so you get to hear the music in a few different sets of instruments. When I unplugged the MIDI cable, it was to prove that it really is playing in realtime. I want to connect the MIDI out of my computer to the MIDI in of my computer, and record, to ‘extract’ the MIDI files from the game. But I need to get some little adaptor to allow me to connect 2 male cables to each other.
