BaWaMI: PC speaker percussion (casual pre-release demo) (experimental)

I’m experimenting with getting Bawami, my MIDI player, to play basic percussion on the 1-bit PC speaker. I haven’t yet released this version, but I thought it sounded neat, so here’s a video! It suddenly sounds more like a chiptune, in my opinion.

By the way, this upcoming version of Bawami will be a big update. I still have quite some work to do before I make it available for download, but there are already 2 other entirely new systems in place and working:

  • Languages, stored in plain-text files so that anyone can translate all text on the config window, main window, and a few other places.
  • “Bank” system to choose extra “variation instruments” using Bank Select messages. Of course, I’ve thrown in a generous handful of new instruments (GS) that take advantage of this. Getting this to work with the menus for overriding a MIDI channel’s instrument was hard work.
