This is the program I made to control my custom StepMania lights which you’ve seen in my previous videos. I’m currently working on a tutorial video for making the lights themselves, and for using the program, but for now, here is the program itself. It can be used without any lights, and I think it’s not too hard to get started with using if you know stuff about StepMania. =)
Actual information about the program, and a download link, are available on the “Programs” page.
EDIT: Download ZIP now includes OCX/DLL files which not everyone may have already, and also info on what to do with these files. This pushes the file size up to 1.61 MB, though. -_-’
EDIT 2: Updated to revision 38. Fixed BPM changes and stops not being shown on the main playback view (they suddenly stopped working in revision 27, with the addition of the DDR-style scrolling arrows view). Also fixed the flickering “Time” progress bar once and for all. If anyone downloaded revision 35, 36 or 37 within the few hours which I had them on my site, please update to this version. Sorry for the hassle.
This fixes one of the inevitable bugs caused by me saying up through the night making revision 140.
With the MIDI file playback mod, MIDI files used to get the last few messages cut off (therefore some MIDIs got their last few notes cut off). This update should fix that. It also fixes the way the playback minutes/seconds/hundredths display was incorrect (it was showing the time of the next MIDI message instead of the current one).
Well, here it is. I promised it several months ago, and finally, it’s here. Now you can simply choose a MIDI file (i.e. *.mid) on your computer and hear it through your PC speaker (or FMOD or other things depending on what other mods you have enabled).

It works almost identically to the live MIDI input mod, except you choose a MIDI file instead of a MIDI device. Naturally, you can jump to different positions, stop/resume playback and loop it too. ;) Since the file is decoded right within the program itself, you no longer need an external MIDI device to be able to play MIDI files on the program. 1-bit MIDI files for everyone! =D
As usual, there are numerous other little changes which I don’t make such a big fuss about and generally just shove to the bottom of the post, so guess what I’m going to do now.
MIDI input mod” renamed to “Live MIDI input mod” to try to avoid confusion with new “Play MIDI file” mod.
FMOD’s volume is now slightly louder (18% instead of 12.5%) - before, MSN couldn’t even detect it in voice clips, which I found very annoying.
When trying to load a BMM file, if you type a filename which doesn’t exist, the program no longer commits suicide.
Bleeper portamento mod can now work with anything the PC speaker would normally play (e.g. BMM file playback, MIDI file playback), but in order for it to work, you MUST tick “Mute PC speaker” so that the ordinary “non-modified” notes aren’t still played over the top, blocking the portamento.
Fixed bug of bleeper portamento mod not stopping itself when you tell it to stop.
Tried to make bleeper portamento mod’s sound not pulse so obviously, which involved changing the maximum value of “Speed of pitch change” to OVER 9000 (its previous value), which I found very amusing at the time.
Changed shutdown code to avoid potential errors to do with MIDI devices (if you have no devices) when exitting the program.
Made it so that you can’t resize the main window (it was annoying some people before). Resizing it was pretty pointless since nothing actually stretched apart from the background, just creating empty, wasted space. My laziness (?) is the reason I made 140 different revisions before disabling window resizing.
EDIT: A new program, “Fix DLL OCX.exe”, is now included in the program download. Run this from within Bleeper Music Maker’s folder to hopefully fix DLL- and OCX-related problems on BMM.
When I created my Touhou Piano MedleyStepMania simfile, I ended up having to create a program to calculate the non-stop BPM changes (since I played the music without a metronome). This is the program - you use it essentially by tapping a key along with the playing music. As you do so, the program makes a #BPMS section for a StepMania simfile.
My program is not suited to constant BPMs - it constantly makes new BPMs, and since the human brain and hand are not precision devices, the BPMs my program calculates will fluctuate around the actual BPM which you’re trying to tap. This is sometimes quite noticable in-game. If it is getting the constant BPM of a song which is needed, I recommend the neat little freeware program TapTempo by AnalogX. It will give you a fairly accurate average BPM if you tap along with the playing music. It should be easy to work out what the actual BPM is because it will fluctuate around the value.
With my program, you can obtain more accurate BPM values by playing the music at half-speed, tapping to it, and then afterwards, multiplying all BPMs by 2 (there’s a feature to multiply all BPMs by a value which you type).
Please remember that my program was never intended to be released to the public. I made it only for my own personal use. Therefore it is not very advanced and contains only what I needed at the time I created it. Please don’t expect too much. I’m releasing it here and now since a couple of people were interested in it, though, so who knows - I may end up giving more attention to it soon. I will add this program to the new “Programs” page, soon.
I made this yesterday after suddenly randomly thinking about it the night before. Probably because I’d been previously been playing a song on StepMania which has the negi-waving Miku as part of its background video.
It’s connected to my custom StepMania lights, which are being controlled by my “SM Player” program. Miku’s supposed to stay in sync with the simfile’s beat, although currently I need to physically adjust the range of her arm for slower and faster BPMs because she doesn’t like having to move her arm too far too quickly.
I think she’s worried her negi will fly out of her hand, or something. =/
Someone wanted to see them playing a song with a difficulty 15 step chart, so here they are blasting out “Native Faith” (Suwako Moriya’s theme) to the rest of the street. =P
I’ve tried to compensate for YouTube’s tendancy to make the video become ahead of the audio, so hopefully the audio/video should be in sync this time.
The reason why the view from outside missed out on the first flash is because I made a program to start the lights on a timer (since I was with the cam), but it didn’t work perfectly. xD
I apologise for the strange “blockiness” which appears momentarily throughout the video it’s because my camcorder needs its head cleaning. It’s not visible on most of my videos, but since the picture changes from bright to dark so quickly here, it’s much more obvious.
This simfile can be found in the 4th Touhou StepMania pack, and the 3rd and 4th packs can be downloaded from here (371.8 MB!).
